The ferry from Lanzarote to Fuerteventura runs from Playa Blanca to Corralejo and takes 25 to 35 minutes, from about €20. Two operators, Fred. Olsen Express and Líneas Romero, sail it several times a day, so a day trip is easy: a morning boat, the day in Corralejo, at the dunes or on Lobos Island, and a boat back in the evening. Bring your passport, because both operators ask for ID.

Book the Fred. Olsen ticket above for a simple foot-passenger crossing. It is valid on the Buganvilla, the 250-seat passenger ferry, at the time you choose, and a return can come back on another day. Fred. Olsen's own website lists more sailings, from 25 minutes, and is where you book a car on board.
Líneas Romero's ferry lists departures from Playa Blanca at 09:30, 11:15, 12:45, 16:30 and 18:30, and from Corralejo at 10:30, 12:00, 13:30, 17:30 and 19:30. Its listing says it is not suitable for people prone to seasickness, and sailings can change in bad weather, with a refund or new time offered.
How to plan a day trip to Fuerteventura
The simplest day is a morning boat out and the 17:30 back. On Líneas Romero's timetable that gives you about eight hours in Fuerteventura, or ten if you take the last boat at 19:30.
The harbour is in Corralejo itself, with the town's shops, cafés and seafront a short walk away. The Corralejo Natural Park dunes start south of town along the FV-104, a short taxi or bus ride, and Lobos Island is a 20-minute boat ride from the same harbour.
If you are not staying in Playa Blanca
Getting to the port is the awkward part from Puerto del Carmen or Costa Teguise. Líneas Romero's ferry-and-bus ticket at about €45 collects you from your resort for the 09:30 sailing and brings you back on the 17:30, with the day in between free.
Skip the "round-trip ferry transfers" package at about €65. It is the same idea at a higher price, and its listing excludes the guide, lunch and transport in Corralejo.
The guided day trip: Corralejo, El Cotillo and the dunes
The guided day trip to Fuerteventura and Corralejo at ~€62 is the one to book if you want everything arranged. It is run by Líneas Romero, takes nine hours, and collects from hotels and bus stops in Playa Blanca, Puerto del Carmen, Costa Teguise and Arrecife.
The day goes Corralejo town (1.5 hours), the fishing village of El Cotillo (1.5 hours), a photo stop at the dunes and 75 minutes on the beach at the Grandes Playas. The guide speaks several languages, with German on Tuesdays and Italian on Wednesdays.
Food and drinks are not included, even though the listing's web address mentions lunch, so bring water and money for a meal in Corralejo or El Cotillo. Reviews put it at 4★+; the most common suggestion is more time at the dunes and beach and less at the earlier stops.
Adding Lobos Island to the day
Lobos is a small volcanic island of about 500 hectares between Lanzarote and Fuerteventura, protected as a natural park. Boats leave Corralejo harbour all day: the ferry takes about 20 minutes, and speedboats about 12.
Landing on Lobos needs an entry permit, so check what your ticket covers. The Corralejo Charter round trip with park entry at ~€17 includes it. Líneas Romero's Corralejo and Lobos package from Lanzarote, about €59, lists the permit as not included.
On the island, El Puertito is a former fishing village with a lagoon for swimming, Playa de la Concha is the sheltered beach, and the climb up La Caldera (127 m) takes about an hour and a half there and back. Corralejo Charter's return boats leave Lobos at 12:15, 13:00, 14:30, 16:00 and 17:00, so the 16:00 is the safe choice for the 17:30 ferry.
Do you need a passport for the ferry?
Yes. Both Fred. Olsen Express and Líneas Romero ask for a passport or national ID card, although the crossing stays inside Spain. British visitors have no national ID card, so that means a passport.
The GetYourGuide tickets are for foot passengers. If you want to take a hire car, book the vehicle with Fred. Olsen directly and check first that your rental agreement allows the car to leave Lanzarote.
Is Fuerteventura worth a day trip?
For beaches, yes. Fuerteventura is the beach island, with long pale sand and dunes against Lanzarote's volcanic landscape, and Corralejo puts both within reach of the ferry. Our guide to which Canary Island to visit compares the two islands in more depth.
