La Graciosa from Lanzarote: The Ferry and How to Spend the Day

La Graciosa is a 25–30 minute ferry from Órzola, at Lanzarote's northern tip, from about €29. Two companies, Líneas Romero and Biosfera Express, sail roughly every half hour, and Líneas Romero's tickets let you return the same day or the next. The island has no tarmac roads and very little shade, so the day is sand tracks, empty beaches and lunch in Caleta de Sebo. Bring water, sunscreen and a passport or ID card.

How do you get to La Graciosa from Lanzarote?

Every route goes through Órzola, the fishing village at Lanzarote's northern tip, and the only question is how you reach it. Prices are from GetYourGuide in October 2026.

With a hire car, book the ferry above and drive to Órzola: it is the cheapest way, and you choose your own hours. Without one, book the bus-and-ferry ticket, or the cruise if you want lunch and a swim from a boat arranged for you.

Líneas Romero or Biosfera Express?

For a day trip, the two ferries are close to interchangeable. The ferry crossing takes about 25 minutes on average, over roughly 6 km of sea, according to Biosfera Express, and Líneas Romero quotes 25 to 30 minutes.

Líneas Romero, the ticket above, lets you choose your outbound time and come back without booking on any of its listed return sailings from La Graciosa: 08:00, 08:40, 10:00, 11:00, 12:30, 15:00, 16:00 and 17:00, the same day or the next. Parking at its car park in Órzola is free.

Biosfera Express sails a double-deck ferry with flexible outbound and return times, parking at a partner car park, and free carriage for pets and bikes. Its own site allows date and time changes at no charge, subject to availability. Both operators ask for a passport or ID card.

No car? The bus-and-ferry ticket

Líneas Romero's return ferry with bus pickup at ~€40 collects you from the main resorts and takes you to Órzola for the 11:00 ferry, with the 16:00 boat back, so you get about four and a half hours on La Graciosa. Food is not included, and neither is a guide: the day is yours.

There is one gap in the timetable: no pickup from Playa Blanca on Mondays, Wednesdays or Sundays. On those days, drive to Órzola or pick another date.

The boat trips: cruise or sailing?

The La Graciosa island cruise with lunch at ~€66 is the most-reviewed way to see the coast. After 45 minutes in Caleta de Sebo, a catamaran anchors off Playa de la Francesa for swimming, snorkelling and kayaking, with paella and unlimited beer, sangria and soft drinks on board. Our Lanzarote boat trip guide compares it with the island's other boat days.

The sailing day trip at about €72 is the alternative, with champagne, a pasta lunch, kayaks and snorkelling gear. From July to October it is adults only on Wednesdays.

Heads up
Neither boat lets you step ashore at Playa de la Francesa. Both listings say beach access is not permitted, which the sailing trip puts down to the rules of the Archipiélago Chinijo Natural Park. You swim from the boat; to walk on the sand, take the ferry and go yourself.

On Sundays, the Teguise market and La Graciosa tour at about €65 combines two hours at Teguise's Sunday market with a paella lunch and free time on La Graciosa, back on the 16:30 ferry.

What to do on La Graciosa

The ferry docks at Caleta de Sebo, the island's village, where the streets are sand and you will find the restaurants, shops and bike hire. La Graciosa is the eighth inhabited Canary Island, with fewer than 800 residents, according to Líneas Romero.

Beyond the village, you walk, cycle or take a 4x4. Turismo Lanzarote describes La Graciosa as one of the few places in Europe with no tarmac roads, and asks cyclists to stay on the marked tracks. Bikes can travel on the ferry, or you can hire one in Caleta de Sebo.

The beaches and the jeep tour

The beaches people come for are Playa de la Francesa and Montaña Amarilla in the south and Playa de las Conchas in the north. The jeep tour at about €55 covers all three in 2.5 hours from Caleta de Sebo, with a stop at the hamlet of Pedro Barba, and can leave you at a beach and collect you later.

That jeep tour does not include the ferry or hotel pickup, so book it alongside your crossing. Reviewers like the route, and the most common suggestion is fewer passengers per jeep.

Shade, water and the marine reserve

Away from Caleta de Sebo there is almost no shade, so take high-factor sunscreen and a hat, as Turismo Lanzarote advises, and plenty of water. The sea around the island is part of the Archipiélago Chinijo marine reserve, 70,700 hectares created in 1995, which Lanzarote's tourist board calls the largest marine reserve in Europe.

Is La Graciosa worth visiting?

Yes, if you want quiet: empty beaches, no traffic and a village of sand streets. It is not the place for nightlife or big sights, and the beaches are a walk or ride from the harbour with little shade on the way.

To stay the night, all accommodation is in Caleta de Sebo, from guesthouses and apartments to a campsite. Turismo Lanzarote advises booking ahead for Carnival, summer, the Fiestas del Carmen on 16 July, Easter and Christmas.
