Playa del Inglés, on Gran Canaria's south coast, has two halves. By day it is one end of about 6km of golden beach running in front of the Maspalomas dunes, with the Mirador de las Dunas viewpoint where the resort meets the sand. By night it belongs to the Yumbo Centre, a four-floor complex of more than 200 shops, bars and clubs that bills itself as the world's only LGBTQ+ shopping centre.
Walk the beach into the Maspalomas dunes
The beach is the reason Playa del Inglés exists. Playa del Inglés and Maspalomas beaches together run for about 6km of golden sand, with the dunes behind them, and you can walk the whole shoreline to the Faro de Maspalomas lighthouse at the far end. The main stretches are lifeguarded, and afternoons usually bring strong wind.
Along the way the beach is informally zoned: a lively LGBTQ+ stretch towards Playa del Inglés, a naturist section in the middle, and families nearer the lighthouse. It is a long, flat walk, so start early or late to avoid the midday heat.

Stop at the Mirador de las Dunas
The Mirador de las Dunas is the viewing platform where Playa del Inglés meets the dune field, and it is the easiest way to see the dunes from above without walking into them. The space was redesigned and reopened in 2015, with curving lines inspired by the dunes' shape and the wind.
It is free and open to walk past at any time, and early morning or late afternoon gives the best light over the sand.
The Yumbo Centre: shopping by day, the island's night out after dark
The Yumbo Centrum opened in October 1982 and fills about 20,000 square metres over four floors with more than 200 premises. During the day it is shops, cafés and restaurants; after dark it becomes the centre of Gran Canaria's nightlife, with bars, show venues and clubs running late.
It is also the heart of the island's LGBTQ+ scene. The Canary Islands tourism board describes it as the world's only LGBTQ shopping centre, and it is the focus of both of the island's Pride weeks.
When are Maspalomas Pride and Winter Pride?
Playa del Inglés hosts two Pride weeks, both centred on the Yumbo:
- Maspalomas Pride: held in May; event listings gave 4 to 10 May for the 2026 edition, with the float parade finishing at the Yumbo on Saturday 9 May
- Winter Pride: held in November; event listings give 2 to 8 November 2026, with live shows on a stage in the Yumbo
Expect the Yumbo and the hotels around it to be at their busiest in both weeks. If you are coming for Pride, book early; if you want a quiet week, check the dates first. Confirm the final programme with the organisers before you travel, as dates are published by event sites rather than a single official timetable.
Where to drink and eat beyond the Yumbo
Not every good night in Playa del Inglés is inside the Yumbo. Two places show the range:
- Atelier Cocktail Bar: the rooftop bar of the Bohemia Suites & Spa hotel on Avenida Estados Unidos, with views over the dunes, the resort's smart option for a sunset cocktail
- The Red Cow & Shenanigans: a restaurant and sports pub in the Prisma shopping centre on Avenida de España, with British-style breakfasts and steaks, live sport on multiple screens, pool, quizzes, karaoke and live music

Days out from Playa del Inglés
Playa del Inglés is central for the south coast, so most of the island's water days are a short bus or taxi ride away.

Global buses connect Playa del Inglés with the airport on line 66, and lines 5 and 40 run to the Faro de Maspalomas at the other end of the dunes.
Where to stay in Playa del Inglés
Where you sleep in Playa del Inglés changes the holiday, because the resort runs from the Yumbo at one end to the dunes at the other. A hotel next to the centre means a short walk home at 02:00; a hotel by the dunes means quiet nights and the beach on your doorstep.
